💰 Treasurer — Officer

Every bike needs a tune-up. Turns out, so do the books. Vélocity is opening one of our most time-sensitive searches this year: our next Treasurer.

Why this role matters

We hear the cycling community has no shortage of accountants and financial advisors who could probably handle this role backwards and blindfolded — and hey, we’re not discouraging attempts, as long as the wheels (and the ledger) keep moving forward. The Treasurer is our financial officer, keeping our books, reconciliations, budget, tax filings, and insurance in order so two shops and a warehouse can keep doing what they do best: putting bikes in the hands of people who need them. It’s precision work, and it’s real work — the kind that keeps the whole mission solvent and moving forward.

What you’ll do

  • Partner directly with the current Board Treasurer during an initial transition period to receive a full handoff of financial systems, access, and responsibilities
  • Maintain the organization’s books of account and review regular bank reconciliations
  • Support annual budgeting and monitor spending against budget
  • Process payroll and ensure timely, accurate processing
  • Oversee tax filings and insurance requirements
  • Report on financial standing to the Board on a regular basis

What we’re looking for

  • Background in accounting, bookkeeping, financial management, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Comfortable with nonprofit financial reporting, or able to learn quickly
  • High attention to detail and strong ethical judgment in handling organizational funds
  • Nonprofit board or fiduciary experience a plus, not required

How this works

You’ll join as Deputy Treasurer, working directly with our current Treasurer, Hanna Do, to inherit our systems, access, and process — then step into full Officer standing within 60–90 days. No guesswork, no cold handoff: just a clear, guided runway so you’re fully confident managing the books from day one. This is an elected Board Officer position — candidates are elected by the current Board of Directors following an expression of interest.

Time commitment

Approximately 15 hours a month, anchored to the monthly board meeting cycle. The initial transition period runs 60–90 days, working directly with the outgoing Treasurer, before full Officer duties begin.

Why say yes

  • Real fiduciary and financial leadership experience — nonprofit board finance work that stands out on a resume for CPAs, controllers, and finance professionals building toward bigger things
  • Tangible, mission-level impact: your stewardship keeps the shops running and the bikes moving
  • A guided 60–90 day on-ramp with our current Treasurer, so you start full standing with real command of the role
  • No personal financial ask — this is about your expertise and your time, not your wallet
  • One of our most time-sensitive open seats this year, if you’ve been waiting for the right board seat to step into

How to get involved

We’d love to hear from interested candidates by September 5, though we’ll keep accepting applications until the seat is filled. If you — or someone in your riding group — is a CPA, bookkeeper, controller, or financial advisor looking for a meaningful board seat, reach out to Board Chair Keith Bloom with any questions or to submit an application.
