Bikes are just the beginning.

Vélocity’s mission is to build a more equitable, sustainable, and healthy community through cycling. That’s the short version. Here’s what it actually means — and how we make it happen.

Equity

Cycling shouldn’t be a privilege. We work to make sure that cost, language, and background aren’t barriers to getting on a bike. That means free scholarships, sliding-scale programs, and a welcoming space where every skill level is respected.

How we do it

  • Reducing economic barriers to bicycle ownership
  • Training diverse local volunteers in bicycle mechanics
  • Providing free bicycles, helmets, and locks to disadvantaged adults and children

Sustainability

Every bike we refurbish is a bike that didn’t end up in a landfill. Every rider we support is one fewer car on the road. We take both seriously.

How we do it

  • Refurbishing bicycles for reuse
  • Collecting and repurposing used parts
  • Recycling metal and rubber from unusable components
  • Promoting cycling as a genuine alternative to driving

Health

Riding a bike is good for you — body, mind, and bank account. We want more people in our community experiencing that.

How we do it

  • Affordable bikes enable active commuting
  • Classes and DIY hours build skills and confidence
  • Youth programs give kids a reason to ride
