🏗️ Deputy Operations Committee Chair

Ready to put your hands on something that matters? Vélocity is looking for a Deputy Operations Committee Chair — a real leadership seat on the team that keeps two shops, a warehouse, and a small army of volunteers running.

Why this role matters

Every Véloteer knows the feeling — the click of a properly adjusted derailleur, a bike rolling out the door ready for someone who needed it. None of that happens without someone tuning the systems, schedules, and people behind the scenes. That’s this role. You don’t need to know a thing about bikes to be great at it (though it doesn’t hurt) — what you need is an eye for how things run, a knack for organizing people, and genuine enthusiasm for a mission that puts bikes in the hands of people who can’t otherwise afford them.

What you’ll do

  • Partner with the Operations Committee Chair and members to provide direction for day-to-day operations across our Del Ray and Lyon Park shops and warehouse
  • Lead or co-lead specific projects and initiatives, with clear ownership and credit
  • Support the Volunteer Coordinator’s work with Véloteer volunteers across both locations
  • Attend monthly board and committee meetings; step in for the Chair as needed
  • Bring fresh ideas for smoother operations, better systems, and a stronger volunteer experience

What we’re looking for

  • Organized, dependable, comfortable managing moving pieces
  • Comfortable with or eager to learn light project and people coordination
  • Passion for community service and Vélocity’s mission — bicycling enthusiasm welcome, not required
  • Previous experience helpful, not mandatory

How this works

This is an appointed leadership role, not an elected board seat — you’d be appointed to work alongside the Operations Committee Chair. It’s a full leadership position in its own right, not a temporary stepping-stone, though it naturally opens doors to bigger board leadership, ideally rising to full Operations Committee Chair, as you grow with Vélocity.

Time commitment

Approximately 10 hours a month, including one monthly board and committee meeting, with flexible day-to-day involvement.

Why say yes

  • Real board-level leadership experience — the kind that reads well on a resume and even better in an interview
  • Ownership of specific projects and initiatives you can point to and say “I built that”
  • A close-up seat next to the Operations Committee Chair, with a structured path to grow quickly
  • No dues, no financial ask — just your time and your energy
  • A community that shows up for each other, on and off the bike
