Board leadership at Vélocity.
Vélocity runs on volunteers — but a small group of Véloteers in board and committee leadership keep the whole thing pointed in the right direction. If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to move from showing up at the shop to actually shaping where Vélocity goes next, this is that path.
What board leadership means here
There’s no financial ask. Board and committee leadership at Vélocity costs you nothing but time and follow-through — most roles run around 10 hours a month, anchored by one monthly meeting, with flexible day-to-day involvement the rest of the time. In exchange, you get a direct hand in the systems and decisions that put bicycles in the hands of people who couldn’t otherwise afford them. It’s real responsibility, and it’s real impact — the kind you can point to.
Find your entry point
Leadership at Vélocity isn’t one-size-fits-all. Depending on how much you want to take on right now, there are a few different doors in:
Board Officers
Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Investment Officer. Elected by the Board. The highest level of responsibility, including fiduciary and governance duties.
Board Directors
General board seats. Elected following a board interview. Help set Vélocity’s strategy and direction alongside the Officers.
Committee Chairs & Deputies
Lead a specific area like Operations, Development, or Programs. Appointed rather than elected — real leadership, with a more accessible way in.
Coordinators & Functional Roles
The most accessible starting point. Don’t require board membership at all — a great way to test the waters before stepping into bigger leadership.
