Some Véloteers had a chance to hang out with our buddies over at Gearin’ Up Bicycles in DC recently. They’re doing some great stuff in the District and we’re looking forward to seeing their new permanent location, where they’ve got a grand opening planned for November 1st. You can learn more about Gearin’ Up at gearinupbicycles.org.
A little more info on Gearin’ Up:
“Gearin’ Up Bicycles’ purpose is to create career development opportunities and teach essential workplace skills to teenagers from underserved communities, while encouraging cycling as a practical, healthy means of transportation. Gearin’ Up provides access to quality, affordable, used bicycles for those in need and hosts various community outreach programs throughout the year.”
Location Until they move (see above), you can find them at 1200 Bladensburg Road NE. They are open from on Thursday-Saturday from 1-7pm, and on Sunday from 1-5pm.
We’re excited to announce that the shop is now open every day, 10am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. We’re keeping our late hours on Wednesdays, closing at 9pm, and our weekend hours haven’t changed.
We’re also excited to announce that we’re introducing full-service repairs! That’s right, you can now drop your bike off to get fixed up by our staff. We will offer a range of tune-ups at very reasonable prices, and can even order any shiny new parts your ride might need. Give us a call at (703) 835-0699 for more information.
As a part of the Del Ray Business Association’s First Thursday, VéloCity will be hosting a kid’s bike safety check, this Thursday, August 7th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The Joe Chiocca Band will be playing outside the shop starting at 7:00 p.m.
Bring the kids, bring your friends, join us for another wonderful First Thursday in Del Ray. We hope to see you there!
